Impregnation
Impregnation
Whether in a raw or machined state, castings often exhibit porosity which leads to leaking when in use in the field. Our Thermal Cure and Sodium Silicate processing can permanently seal leaks and allow what was a scrap casting to be used with no undesirable side effects.
For decades both the Automotive and Aerospace industries have relied on Metal Impregnation to reduce scrap rates and ensure porous components are sealed and suitable for use as intended.
Parts treated with Thermal Cure Resin are usable immediately after processing as the resin sets during processing. Thermal Cure Resin is recommended for most Impregnation applications due to its excellent performance characteristics.
Our process and materials conform to MIL-I-17563C & MIL-STD-276A.
Parts treated with Sodium Silicate require a standing period (recommended 12hrs minimum, 24hrs in high humidity) to allow the solution to cure. Sodium Silicate is recommended for components that will be welded after Impregnation, and for large components with multiple blind paths/channels.
